Housing

Hi! I was just wondering how housing works for incoming freshmen. I am not going to be a freshman in college until fall of 2018, but I am looking at USC and am wondering which dorms are for freshmen, what options there are, how roommates are chosen, and how you are assigned a residence hall. Thanks!

Housing is based on application date not deposit date. That being said, housing is only guaranteed freshman year. Most of the dorms that you will see on the website (except those on the horseshoe) are freshman dorms. You prioritize your learning communities and they assign by that. You can either find a roommate on your own (through social media) or go random. My D went random and was lucky to get a great roommate! Hope that helps!

If you get accepted, aim for one of the Quads or Patterson (which is becoming co-ed, not only women). Stay away from McBryde (it’s old and only males), Bates and Cliff (Bates and Cliff are fairly old are kinda far from central campus).

@Kryskov Do you know which ones are used for USC’s residential bridge program? If so, are they decent?

I know the Gamecock Gateway students stay in the Roost, but I’ve never personally been there nor met anyone who lives there. I think it’s a little far from campus if I remember correctly.

A friend’s daughter stayed there for Bridge. It is on the edge of campus (used to be athletic dorms) near Bates and Bates West which are next two dorms on list to be updated. Right behind Athletic “office” building. They are old but suite style. Convenient enough to campus since it is very walkable (or shuttle) and classes are somewhere else anywhere (have shuttle to get to class).
