So I am a new incoming freshman for the fall of 2010 who is an agriculture major planning to major in Verterinary Medicine Animal Science. So I applied for housing and there were no dorms available in Blake Hall. How does this housing work? The only dorms available at the time were the ones in Taylor Hall. So I have a dorm. How would I go about switching into Blake Hall? I know people who are in Blake Hall, and they are majoring in mechanical engineering. I'm just confused on how this works. :(

Not sure about switching res halls. It’s pretty easy to switch rooms within the same res hall. Your best bet would be to e-mail reslife, call them, or head by their office (if you are from around Baton Rouge) and ask them.

email/call the folks at reslife. they can tell you.

most of the dorms on campus are full though, so good luck moving. you might need to find a spot to switch with.

also, ew. you probably want to try to get out of taylor asap.

the pentagon is a bit sketchier than other dorm areas, but not bad, i guess

lsufreshman2010- Did you sign up for to be in the ag res college when you applied for housing at first? If you didn’t, you should have. I would call reslife to see if there is anyway you could get in. Blake Hall is divided up half ag res college and half traditional hall. That’s why a mechanical engineer would be living in Blake. They would be living on the traditional side. If the person you know is living in Blake lives on the ag side, they probably had spaces open last year that they needed to fill. I have a friend who is an elementary ed. major who lives on the ag side of Blake. She got in there because they had rooms they needed to fill last year.

As far as Taylor, the pentagon isn’t that bad. The whole pentagon is gated making it safer that only pentagon residents can enter in. There are all a lot of benefits to living in the pentagon- The 5, close to classes and the library, close to the PMAC and Tiger Stadium. You get full use of Broussard’s lobby areas. The courtyard is the hang out place and a great place to tailgate in the fall.

Right now, there are over 800 people on the standby list. Just be thankful you have a place on campus. There are a lot of students who would want your room in Taylor.
