The game between Air Force and Houston will be played at Gerald J. Ford Stadium at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, officials at Houston announced Wednesday afternoon. The game will kickoff at 2:30 p.m.

The contest was originally supposed to be played at Houston, but moved because of Hurricane Ike, which is predicted to affect the Houston area this weekend.

Houston officials originally thought of moving the game to Texas Sadium, but SMU’s field was open because the Mustangs play at Texas Tech this weekend.

CBS College Sports still will televise the game.

Yes, this change is causing headache for me since I have to find out who among the 1200 people in Group 1 is still going despite the policy change on the cadet side about it....joy. Go Ike!

Is it on nationally? I'd really like to see the game...

Hornet, what's the policy change?

If you cadets are bored, just go over and watch the first FENCING TOURNAMENT of the year, the Nick Toth Tournament, held right there on the Academy Grounds. You can cheer on your favorite twins (who have a flu thing and are miserable), and watch your own Peter French of the class of 2010 win it.

As you all are aware, I'm sure, the really important football game this week takes place Sunday night at 8:15 p.m. eastern time - the fabulous Pittsburgh Steelers versus the pathetic Cleveland Browns. I'm sure you'll all be tuned in for that one.

Having to redo paperwork to go to Dallas instead of Houston. People having to get refunds on airline tickets. And me having to get numbers of people that will go now...

With evacuation routes taking some of the thousands of people from the coastal communities into Dallas, AND predictions of the storm making some kind of impact in the Dallas area as well, I really wonder if the "powers to be" for both schools will, once again, make another critical decision and move the game again or will it be a match at all for this weekend.

I really think all the cadets should stay put and go to the Fencing Tournament. :)

BJ10MOM, you are obviously wise and travel savvy!

We've traveled a few miles in our time but I don't know how wise we are! LOL We are in the route of the storm (Gee, who isn't here in Texas) so my breaks, from some essential packing, are computer checks to see who is where and try to assure some members of my "far and away" family that we will be fine. After I assure them I try to re-assure myself!!!!! Yikes!

Be safe and you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Thanks, ds!

We are doing all we can to prepare but are not evacuating as we are not on the coast - sheltering in place as they say. I do know cadet families in areas under mandatory evacuation though. We all need an extra prayer from all who have one. Thanks!

How far inland do you have to go to escape the wrath of Ike? 20 miles? 2 miles? How far is considered "safe?"

We are approx. 50 miles inland from the coast, west of Houston, and we are being told to expect winds of 100 miles per hour - at some point - when Ike hits Saturday morning. As far as 75-100 miles north won't seem to be far enough with this storm. We have prepared as well as we can for wind and tornado issues for safety. Whatever else happens, happens. We are also being told to expect 30-50 mph winds starting tomorrow morning, a good 24 hours before landfall.

Galveston area, Freeport, Surfside, etc. the low sides, are already starting to experience some flooding, surging and beach erosion. Expected surge, IF the storm holds true to prediction, is a possible 15-20 feet coastally at the eye of the storm.

Ike is huge. The eyewall of hurricane force winds is stretching a distance of about 100 miles plus. Tropical storm winds are covering a distance of over 200 miles. A very large storm.

We can only wait and see as anyone in a hurricane zone knows the unpredictability.

I hope my room survives upstairs as the storm passes. NOAA is showing the eye going directly over our house. Guess we're getting new shingles.

hornetguy - I thought you were from Houston. Ike is bearing down on Galveston and Houston. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Everyone, please stay safe and encourage your families to stay safe.

Hornetguy, is your family evacuating?

I might be too scared to stay if the storm winds up being as BJ10Mom describes.

Hornet we are all thinking about you and your family. This will pass, somehow I'm sure you will have a room to return too, shingles and all.

Hornetguy, have you heard from your family? How did they weather Ike? Been thinking about all the poor folks in Ike's path this weekend.

All clear. Almost no damage to the house (just a part of the fence) and minimal rain in comparison. I'm relieved to say the least!

Glad to hear that Hornet we were worried about you and your parents.

The game was moved up from 2:30 pm. to 10:00 am. so I believe that also threw off some traveling plans getting to the game. It started to get nasty after the 2nd. half. By 6:00 pm Sat. most of the rain had stopped.

The Dallas area received alot of folks evacuating the Houston area coming up 45. Hopefully everyone can get home alright, they are saying that 1 in 4 have power in the Houston area right now.
