How accurate is college board's NPC?

I believe I've put my gpa in my profile on college board and it knows my SAT scores. I recently filled out the NPC for one school and it shows that I can afford one school assuming my parent is denied the PLUS loan. I'm hoping it's accurate.

It'd be nice to know if people got better or worse FA packages from schools compared to what the NPC said.

The college board general purpose calculator isn’t going to be very accurate for a particular school. Some schools do link from their finaid web pages to an NPC hosted by college board. Those are customized for each school and should be as accurate as an NPC can be. Always find the NPC on a school’s finaid web pages. For families that own businesses, are self-employed, have rental properties etc., NPCs in general aren’t as accurate as for families with straight forward W-2 income only.

ETA: I also don’t think a college board hosted NPC is going to automatically bring in SAT or GPAs from elsewhere at college board. If the NPC doesn’t ask for those, it’s not going to include possible merit awards in the results it gives.

Ok thanks, the NPC I used was hosted by college board, and I was just hoping that it was accurate. Even if it’s off by 1k or so I hope I’ll be able to attend the school I want to.
