How accurate is studentsreview.com in terms of HYPSC, and top schools

I've read a lot of bad stuff there. Are they all true or are they just some minority opinion.

Yes, Harvard really is the worst school on earth...

Consider the sources. Unidentified internet geeks.

Good discussion on studentsreview in the parents forum:
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=40499%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=40499</a></p>

I like studentsreview by the way.

I don't think it's great. epinions.com is much better.

I looked at studentsreview and the comments for Harvard. I thought that the comments reflected accurately students' experiences. I also thought that the comments would serve as a much needed reality check for students who apply to Harvard assuming that Harvard will be a warm fuzzy that will gently push them into reaching their potential.

Harvard is not the place for students who desire the kind of close, suppportive, student-centered environment that small LACs have. Shy students wanting professors to go out of their way to get to know them; students wanting professors to track them down if the students skip class; students who become frozen in fear at the thought of being around highly intense, self absorbed peers -- all would be better served by going elsewhere.

Similarly, students whose college dream is enjoying tailgate parties, wonderful bonding around the football team's glories, boozing at frat parties, etc., also should avoid Harvard.

Students who would enjoy being on a campus where virtually any EC or academic interest is possible -- if one has the guts to create such an opportunity -- would love Harvard.

Students whose social outlets are their EC interests (such as students who'd happily spend all of their free time writing for their student newspaper, performing in plays, being in debate club, doing community service, etc. ) would love Harvard because that's how most students socialize and make friends.

Here! Here! Northstarmom - I totally agree. I also like epinions, too - but I referred to Studentsreview more often in my own college search last year....

Where is the M ?

i like northstarmom's summary. im one of those who love ECs... too bad i couldnt get in. =(

I would agree with Northstarmom's summary of Harvard pluses and minuses.

The extracurricular activities are the great strength of the undergrad program, in large part because they provide a sense of community that is otherwise not easily found.

In general, I think reading a collection of opinions at the various student review sites should be part of getting to know a college. The value is not that there are negative comments (it would be more disturbing if students expressed no negatives), but rather the kinds of negatives that crop up.
