How accurate is the Financial Aid Calculator?

Just wondering how accurate the calculator on stanford's website is to all of you stanford 2017 SCEA acceptants or past years.
Thanks!

I thought it was fairly accurate. Then again, I am a prospective student from a low income background. If you under the 65,000 bracket as I do, then it should be fairly accurate. Other than that, I wouldn’t be able to tell you exactly how accurate it is for higher income students.

Though I still plan to appeal my financial aid decision, I found that the aid calculator was quite a bit different from the aid award I received last month. (I come from a family with an income over 100,000 and no complicating factors like excessive savings, stocks, etc.)

It should be fairly accurate unless there are extenuating circumstances of any kind that can’t really be calculated using a calculator.

cool thanks for the replies guys! For other high-school students lurking around this forum
I would consider my family somewhere around the mid middle class of our city and the calculator has been giving me answers ranging from 0 to 20k+ for financial aid depending on how much info I put in. Hopefully if I’m accepted 2 years from now it’ll be closer to the higher mark.

@LeiaOrgana congratz on the acceptance and good luck with the appeal!
