More specifically, how are their visual arts? everyone says that harvard is good in all subjects, but what about the fine arts (or if you only know about their performing arts, you can divulge)?

They have a "visual/environmental studies" department instead of just an art department. What is up with that?

Effectively nonexistent if your'e looking for a career in art. VES is largely theoretical in nature focused on art critique rather than art creation. If you're really passionate about arts, I'd recommend a real art college that will prepare you for a career in art rather than the Harvard program, which will teach you a lot about art theory and then send you off onto a career in finance or consulting.

PS. Harvard senior who has 16 years of training in visual arts and at one time looked into a VES major.

For History of Art and Architecture, Harvard is tip-top. For Visual Arts (Studio Art), explore Yale, which has a fantastic studio arts program, and a history of producing successful contemporary artists (i.e., great NYC connections.)

I actually ended up majoring in VES, and would agree that it's not ideal if you want to be a professional fine artist. I knew I wanted to go on to architecture school so I took all of the GSD's architectural history courses, some studio art courses, and some film courses and really enjoyed them.
