How are masters program and phd program admissions different?

Do they emphasize different things? Is research experience important for masters programs? Do they have different gpa or gre standards? How much harder is it to get accepted into each program than an undergraduate program? By the way, I would go into applied mathematics for either program. Thank you for your responses.

This is extremely variable. For the best advice for a particular field of study, speak with university faculty members who work and teach in that field.

Note there is a grad forum you can also post to. Math is a bit different than the other STEM type programs where research is important and I am not too familiar. It is completely different from undergrad admissions so comparing ‘harder-ness’ doesn’t make any sense.
