Other major honours and ECs:
School prefect, one of the 8 in school student counsil

Tennis 1st team captain + top seed, have played for 10 years, trained in tennis school and spend at least 6 hrs on court per week

Basketball team captain (the team is not very strong)

when in china, participated in a city-wide competitiion which involved debating, speach, performance, leadeership and so on. I became one of the last 5 winners. The final of the competition was live on television.

volunteered English teaching in schools in remote areas in China during most holidays

Annual award for physics and chemistry in school for 2 years

I know this is one of those weaker profiles for these top universities. But please give an honest comment about my chance of getting in.... Many thanks in advance!!

Yes, unfortunately it is too late to contact coaches as the recruiting process is over for the class of 2012 and coaches are focusing on the class of 2013

Your ECs aren't very diverse and reflect those of the typical Asian applicant (like Tennis). Adcoms see thousands of such applications every year, you don't seem to bring anything unique to the table.

federerexpress, are you applying for financial aid? if you're not, then I'd say you have very high chances, almost a certainty of getting into stanford....harvard and princeton are pretty much crapshoots O_o

oh lol...i meant Yale and Princeton, sorry....since Yale and Princeton are need blind toward internationals, you're as good as any domestic applicant, but in the case of stanford, if you dont ask for aid, ( which a majority of internationals do), then you're at a significant advantage and im sure u'll make it in

hmm to be honest, slim chance of getting in

high SATs (min 2200+) are actually a prerequisite...the ECs are good, but not outstanding enough for a international applicant...I've got president scholars in my school with 2300+ SATs and a slew of medals awards yet not making into HYPS...and besides, due to the quotas placed on international students, you'll be facing stiff competition from outstanding applicants all over the world....its never about being as good as a domestic applicant, u'll need to be much better and even then, its still boils down to that bit of luck

nevertheless, trying is a MUST...i myself have been a fortunate recipient of such luck (lacklustre grades and ECs yet accepted at a top U) you'll never know if the admissions officer sees the inherent potential or unique edge you have so all the best =)

^ Erm... the kid who got into Stanford with a 1700 has exceptional ECs. He has received numerous awards for Community service and outstanding leadership. The OP has none of those. His (OP's) ECs are extremely predictable and top colleges receive a number of applications like his.

^ That is a very poor way to diminish his achievements. He has extraordinary leadership abilities, please don't make AA the USP of his application.
