How are my chances?

Hello everyone! My name is Nicki. I'm a junior in high school and I am in love with Pepperdine University. I would really appreciate any feedback you may have about my chances and whatnot... Thank you so much! :)

4.0 weighted GPA

PSAT 228, SAT 2100

4 years of Show Choir, 3 years of tennis (2 JV/1 varsity), 4 years of musical theater, trying out for Senior Class Council next year!

AP Euro (B+)(3), APUSH (B), Brit Lit...technically honors (B+/A-), AP Music Theory (A)
~next year: AP English, AP Government, AP Econ

President's Honor Roll, National Merit Commended Scholar, Most Outstanding Performer in Encore Show Choir

I am very active at my church. I volunteer there every weekend as a bible study teacher for second grade students and have recieved special recognition for my work. I also sing in the worship band for the high school ministry.

I am a white female from Irvine, CA.

I plan to major in Music with a focus on Music Education, and minor either in Creative Writing or English.

Thank you so much in advance!

It’s always hard to chance because some people with 4.2 get rejected and while people like me with a 3.6 get in? with no church experince, not much EC so it’s honestly luck of the draw and how you show in the essay how much YOU NEED! Pepperdine

I would think you have a pretty good chance of getting in. I got in with a 3.5 unweighted gpa but I take all IB classes. 1820 sat. I played varsity tennis and ran track all through high school, but I didn’t have very much community service (less than 100 hours) and my family is religious and had gone to church when I was young but not at all through high school. I think my stats are a little lower than other people who got in but I still think your stats are above average.

ellomeno: Yeah, there seems to be a sort of randomness to college admissions in general. I’ll just work hard on my essays when I apply and pray for the best. Thanks!

rayray1: Thank you, your input is extremely helpful! My unweighted GPA is actually around 3.6 or 3.7 if I can get that A in Brit Lit, so I guess my SAT is the most impressive part. I feel better knowing that I don’t have to be a super-top student to get in.

I’d say you have a very good chance of getting in with these stats

TheGoodDoc: Thanks! I’m really glad that you think so. I used this thing on *****.com that supposedly tells you the chances of getting into a specific college, and Pepperdine came up as 1.6%. Needless to say, I totally freaked out. You all have helped calm me, so thank you very much!

Another question–does Pepperdine give scholarship money to national merit scholars? I found out a little while ago that I am commended, and I will most likely make it to the semifinals. I have a friend who got into USC with half his tuition paid from national merit, so I’m wondering (hoping) that Pepp will do the same?

Those kinds of sites aren’t worth your time. Don’t sweat it!

Obviously I’m not an admissions officer, but when I look at your application I see a well rounded student with some very competitive test scores. These are traits that colleges love.

Keep working hard in school and in your extra curriculars. You have a great shot if you keep it up :)

Thank you so much TheGoodDoc! Your advice is extremely helpful. I will keep up what I’m doing and hope for the best!
