How are the CS(Games) professors?

I mean the ones who teach specific game development courses. I've heard mixed reviews of the Computer Science professors, so I was just hoping for some more insight.

Also, do we make our schedule (and choice of professors/timing of classes) at Orientation?

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the games program.

You should be able to work out your schedule at orientation. Can’t speak to the specifics as registration is online now and I don’t know how much they are able to do there.

Hi again,

The CS (Games) professors that teach programming are first and foremost Sanjay. He’s the man. He’s an excellent teacher and really knowledgable about the industry. Even though I no longer take classes from him, I occasionally go in to talk about things (projects I’m working on, the OUYA, etc.) The more classes you can take from him, the better off you’ll be. Take note, he’s in ITP and not CS. ITP generally has the better teachers [USC | Information Technology Program | People | Sanjay Madhav](http://itp.usc.edu/faculty-staff/Sanjay-Madhav)

The other CS (Games) professors teach upper-level classes that are project based, therefore they set you off on a path and check up on you. It’s up to you to be motivated to do a lot and get a lot out of the course. But senior year is far away for you. The only freshmen course like this is Pipelines (CS 281) and it sucks unless you like 3d modeling and put the time in. Every major has a course like that though.

Other key games courses are

I’m pretty sure you make your schedule at orientation. Plan ahead by looking at the bulletin and Schedule of Classes. Your CS classes are predetermined, but you get to pick your GE.

Psydent, thank you so much for the extremely detailed response!

You said that the only classes you get to choose at Orientation are GE classes. Are there any courses that you recommend? I’m looking to take more lax and hopefully fun GE’s since engineering is definitely very difficult. I guess what I’m asking is: Are there any GE’s that might inflate your GPA, while still being very interesting?

Sorry to say, I don’t know what GE’s are being offered this upcoming academic year.

General advice would be find a few you’re interested in and look up the profs on ratemyprofessor. I’ve used that site a lot in my recent posts, but I do recommend taking it with a grain of salt as some students use it to get back at a professor for a bad grade, or conversely giving a bad teacher all 5’s because it was an easy A (but a useless class). Still it’s generally good for trends.

Is this the site for the GE’s? [Fall 2013 | Schedule of Classes](302 Found)

EDIT: Yep, found 'em.
