How are the dorm rooms?

I haven't had a chance to visit yet & I probably won't be able to. I've heard that the dorm rooms for all the Big Ten schools are awful.

I've visited around 10 schools but the only Big Ten school of the bunch was the University of Wisconsin. Honestly you could probably fit 3-5 Wisconsin dorm rooms into one dorm room of any of the other schools I've visited, and it had a bunch of other negative features that I won't bother listing.

My question is, how would you describe Michigan's dorms? Are they like Wisconsin's? How much space do they have?

it depends, some are nice and some are not. My dorm in Cambridge House, for example, is 19'x13' (a double), has carpeted floors, a bathroom, shower and closets.

I visited the Michigan dorms on a campus tour... they are SMALL. It almost made me want to say "what am I doing wanting to go here". Very turned off by the dorms. It was practically 8x10.

Hrm Wolves I don't think the rooms are THAT small I might be wrong... however I did endure the pain of living in an economy triple last year, and it really wasn't that bad as most people would think! You get used to the size of the dorms and since many people don't even spend that much time in their dorms it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

u could get an apt :) lol

My double in Mosher-Jordan is 11x15. I recommend bunking or lofting beds to maximize space.

Sounds like cambridge house is one of the better ones. What's a good residence hall for sophomores and up? I want to get familiar with the different kinds before I'm left with no options after first year. (I don't mean apartments, just dorms.)

the apartments are very expensive unless you have like 3 people to share it with. the dorms at UMich are very small, about the same as at MSU.

i think the apt deal is overrated...to me, why would u get an apt without sharing it anyway? of course you'd share it with someone. I went apt shopping between feb-april this year and there were some good apts cheap <500/month if u share and the distances werent that bad with UM either....i dunno thats just my opinion. Tower Plaza is expensive i agree, but theres an apt i found just downthe road for 1200/month 3 bedroom 2 bathroom!! share it and thats 300/month, CHEAP!...maybe im just not experienced enough with AA's apt stuff....but people are right, it still takes a lot of effor to FIND these apts i found

redhare: anywhere in west quad has great dorms for upperclass students

it's sort of misleading to speak of the all the dorms as really small. UM has multiple resident halls and depending on what programs you're in, you could be housed in rooms of varying size. If you get into the honors prgram and elect to do honors housing, the rooms in south quad are amazing. Mine is 12 by 19 (a a double). Even if you're not in a special program that has separate housing, if you're proactive about turning your housing contract in early and putting down that you want South Quad or West Quad as your top choices for dorms, you have a good chance of getting housed there.

S. Quad is pretty good. I'm economy triple and all, but it's adequate (12 by 19 double with 3 beds). It's not like everyone's there at the same time (only when it's late and you must all sleep). Maybe my room isn't as good as other ones, but I have to say that S. Quad in general as a res. hall. is one of the best you can get first year.

I got a really big room in Baits (double deluxe) Complete with a stove, fridge, bathroom, and big closets
