I'm applying as a transfer student for next fall, and I am a serious student, but at the same time I LOVE me some partyin :) (and not necessarily the frat kind, where you're always an inch away from someone puking or something icky like that.)

So I was wondering what the scene was like? Certainly with 39,000 students there hasss to be some semblance of a party scene, right?

Or, is it hard to manage both with the speed/intensity of the quarter system?

From what I can tell so far, being a freshie and all, most parties here occur on Thursday night (at the frats at least). So good luck on those Friday morning classes if you’re a South Campus major! (I know a friend who parties and just doesn’t go to the morning classes…BTW, she’s not doing so hot in that class…)

I’m a South Campus major so I don’t really go to those Thursday parties… And I’m not big on the social scene so I rarely ever find out about any other parties.

Well ok, I oughtta specify
I guess my definition of parties is more intimate, not with 100’s of other people but with maybe 4, 5 people. Dorm parties. Are those acceptable cuz by the time I will transfer (to whichever UC I get into!) I’ll be 21.

The general policy towards alcohol is that as long as your RA can’t see it, hear it, or smell it. This basically means you don’t get completely smashed with your door wide open singing Ludacris at 3 in the morning.

Just be smart and you won’t get caught.

As for actually having the parties, if your roommates are cool with it (or not there ;)) or if your friends are having one, then they’re there. Its just a matter of finding the right group of people to do it.

the parties here are lame because most everyone here under 21 transferred as a freshman and thus spent most of their teenage years being nerdy, so now just the freedom to be outside and socalize seems to be good enough for them. you’re old enough to go explore hollywood, so do it.

^ Lol. Probably a bit true. I went to an apartment party once, and it had a lot of questionable activities going on, in both the good and bad… but I didn’t have as much fun as expected cause everyone there kinda seemed into their own group. (Not that I didn’t try, made some friends who I wish I asked for a number or something. Then again, it was probably for the better since I did meet them while they were a bit buzzed…) Anyways! According to some of my more social and out there friends, they’re awesome, so maybe I just went to the wrong kind of apartment party.

Indeed, it still makes me wonder why people keep asking about parties on here of all places. CCs version of a party is a thread getting more than 5 posts per day.

parties are SICK at UCLA and i partied pretty hard in high school.

apartments near wilshire (where many 3rd/4th years stay) have parties all the time. These are way better than typical frat parties. if you are in a club or organization that interacts with other schools, then you also party near or at other school (like USC, irvine, etc) almost every week. And asian frat parties (lambda &omega)are always bumping. If you are asian, you better not miss out on the rush week when school starts. All other frats are dry, but asian frats have 14 day rush week party every day and are never dry. Don’t pledge though, hazing gets pretty bad. there are also kickbacks at dorms (saxon and hitch are good places) that are actually pretty legit, and are often better than crowded parties. also many asian organizations have clubbing events at least once a week. there are multiple parties EVERY night even on weekends. i always have multiple parties/clubs i am invited to every night even when i come back home.

just know the right people. many people i know party everyday. just don’t get too into it though, your grades will suffer heavily haha

oh yeah, if you join organizations like ACA, NSU modern, KASA… (asian ones) there are parties/kickbacks EVERY night.

No one parties in the dorms anymore. Some might preparty, but even then, not so much. Apartments have parties all the time. They might be what you’re looking for. I’m usually bored by them at this point. Some of us older students go to bars and clubs… and not in Westwood.

the parties are amazing. no lie. from the treehouse to the coop to theatre to desma to athletics… you just have to have the right friends or acquaintances.

however, you’re describing kickbacks. those happen, on weekdays. a couple of friends gathered over some beverage, watching a movie. again, you need to have the proper acquaintances to really do that.

oh, and silvercross: why would you respond if you have no idea about the social scene?

^ I wouldn’t say “no idea,” just probably not as well as other, more social/better-connected people. And technically, I’ve actually been to parties and the stuff, just not a lot. Whatever input I give is mainly intended for a different perspective, from an “eh”-socially-somewhat-serious-person.

With so many students, there are a few different party scenes. There’s the greek life party scene, the student org party scene (dm, unicamp, kesem, etc), the people who go to hollywood raves and do ridiculous drugs, the people who go to clubs in hollywood, people who stick to bars in westwood, freshman who do dorm drinking, “normal” students who throw occasional parties at their apartments. It’s like any other college really, if you want to find parties you will, if you don’t, you won’t.
