How are these ECs?

Hey peeps! Now that sophomore year is done, I figured I would post my ECs to see what I need to do in the future. My academics are solid enough for the schools I'm aiming for, so I think it'll come down to ECs and essays.

Rank: 3/150ish
SAT: 2120 (taken in 9th grade as a bet. A practice exam I took yesterday was 2350, so hopefully I'll get something in that range)
PSAT: 231
UW GPA: 3.98
9 APs and 3 IBs by the end of Junior year, 12 APs and 6 IBs in total
IB Diploma candidate
I've taken 4 APs now:
APWH (5), I'm pretty sure I got a 5 on these too: AP Comp Sci A, AP Calc AB,
AP Physics C Mechanics

ECs:
Debate:
4th in State in Extemporaneous Speaking (2008, 2009) [I got jipped so badly this year. >_>]
I double qualified to nationals in Public Forum Debate (2nd) and International Extemp. (1st) this year.
Semi-finalist (top 12) in Impromptu at Wake Forest Earlybird, Blue Key, Laird Lewis (Myers Park)
Semi-finalist (top 12) in Extemp at Emory
6th place at Laird Lewis in Extemp

I'm a public speaking chair (in charge of training of novices) in the debate team right now, pretty sure I'll get captain my senior year.

Youth in Government (YIG):
Attended like 16 conferences
Attendee of the Conference on National Affairs (CONA) this year (2009). Delegation of 20 from each state get selected to go.
Chosen as a Premier Presider for the 2009 SC conference.
I'm running for Speaker of the House this year, and it looks like I'll win :D

SGA:
Freshmen Year: class VP
Sophomore Year: class VP
Junior Year: Student Body Secretary

Tiger Ambassadors:
30ish kids get selected each year to represent the school in various functions. eg. wear a suit and direct people around the school during parent nights. We also get to go talk to middle schoolers about the IB program.

Math:
SC All-State math team (08-09)
Mu Alpha Theta (07-08). The teacher left so it died this year. I'm trying to get it restarted next year.
AMC 10 school winner (x2).
AIME qualifier (failed it. badly)
SC ARML team (09)

Fundraising Club:
My friend and I also started a club this year to raise money for various school organizations. Some sort of financial mishap happened, to where our school doesn't have enough paper anymore. We hope to raise 8-10k over the summer. We'll see how that goes.

USAPO:
Founding a club for it next year. I'm not sure how I'll do or how it will go in general, so don't really consider this. Just wanted to put it down.

Varsity Tennis (2007-2009)

Other stuff is fairly insignificant. The debate/speaking stuff should continue to improve, and I hope to final at a couple of national tourneys next year, with the assistance of forensics camp. Math and fundraising will probably also continue.

I'm interested in:
Yale
MIT
Caltech
Duke
UC Berkeley
Stanford
JHU
The rest are safeties

buuuump? 14 views? I guess my title wasn’t enticing enough.

your stats are kinda like mine…i think you should retake SAT and if you get 2250+ with atleast 720+ on each subject, then I think you have a great shot

Those ECs are awesome, and so is your overall profile. You’ll get into at least half of those schools.

Are you kidding?! Your ECs are excellent (how do you fit them all in!)

With your projected 2310 on the SAT (per your PSAT) you should get into most of your schools. Perhaps add Northwestern to your list? I think you are in at JHU, Northwestern, UCBerk, and Duke (just a guess, but you are quite a qualified applicant. But random stuff does happen).

Good luck! Perhaps consider UMichigan as a safety :)

“your stats are kinda like mine…i think you should retake SAT and if you get 2250+ with atleast 720+ on each subject, then I think you have a great shot”

Lol. I wasn’t planning on using the 2120, xD. It was just a bet with a friend. I hope to get a 2300+ when I take it for real this fall.

Haha you call me cocky, and then post a thread with these stats asking if your amazing EC’s are ok…I call mega-hypocrisy right here

Regardless, great work, your EC’s are * exceptional *.

I definitely agree with DataBox, hypocrisy is not a good thing son…

My ECs? There aren’t any national awards really, and I feel like I don’t show my passion in the sciences enough. My friends told me I was screwed. >_>. But either way, I was just trying to see what I needed to change, etc.

I’m sorry if I was being hypocritical, and also I reread my posts in DataBox’s threads, and I guess I was being harsh. Regardless, DataBox, you’re a great applicant, I don’t think you need to worry at all.

Let me rephrase my question then, something to what DataBox was asking. I want to major in BM Engineering. Will the fact that I spend 90% of my team debating and doing political type stuff (YIG) instead of researching or curing cancer or doing anything in the math/science field hurt? While I’d love to do that kind of thing, there aren’t many opportunities at school and I loooooooooooove debate.

Can I bump? I’m really worried about this.
