So basically my 1st semester at Swat is just like any other semester. I'm going to have to do really well.

No. Based on the med school admissions handbook, it is very unusual to send shadow grades with med school applications. There is a ton of information for prospective med students. Just search the Swat website for "medical school admissions" and find the health careers advising links. They lay out the whole process.

And first year internships. Since the students apply after just one semester of college for the summer internships, some of them at least ask for GPA which needs to be computed from the shadow grades.

Just to help out. I was on my med school's admissions committee. For those schools that don't grade 1st semester, an explanation is included in the premed letter explaining the situation and credit/no credit or pass/fail is fine for nearly all schools I know. In terms of GPA considerations, it's often calculated as science GPA, total GPA and usually the 1st semester is discounted for all applicants, whether they have a grade or not.
