sorry but for Stanford, Berkely, any of the ivy or ivy-ish colleges your grades probably are too low. But hey you’re only a sophmore right? You have time. Check out places just a little bit below that and don’t beat yourself up. In the real world it rarely matters where you went to college. It’s all people skills and performance, and electrical engineering is a great field career-wise

If there is any particular, legitimate reason for those C’s and D’s your sophomore year and if you can achieve primarily A’s and perhaps several B’s your junior and senior years, you should be fine. Grades are important, but if you show such an upward trend following an incident that affected you, then that’s equally as important as consistently achieving top grades. If Stanford rejects you, it isn’t because of grades. The top 20 schools reject even the best applicants as the is the nature of small freshman classes and talented applicant pools. Undergrad isn’t that important, anyways. You can certainly apply to whatever schools you like as long as you have “safety” schools you applied to as well (schools to which you are bound to get in, like state schools).

Also, extracurricular activities are very important. If you joined any clubs or sports this year, STICK WITH THEM and get leadership positions you junior and senior years. If you have no extracurricular activities, then join clubs and perhaps sports in which you are interested your junior, and try to get leadership (officer) positions in them your senior year (if you can get them junior year, that’s even better). Maybe consider starting a new club at school as well, as that would show initiative that is favorably looked upon by colleges, and it would be nice to leave some sort of legacy in you high school.
