I made a huge mistake. This year I have picked 3 AP classes: AP Psych, AP Lang, and APUSH. I also picked 1 Dual Enrollment class which I am doing fine in. Let’s just start with this: I have an F in AP lang and a D in APUSH for the quarter. I am already going to drop AP Lang, but I didn’t think I would have a hard time with APUSH. I’m doing fine in AP Psych: I have a B.
Anyways, how bad is it that I dropped 2 AP classes my junior year? I am so stressed out; my sleep has been going downhill to the point where I only get around 2-3 hours of sleep every night because of my anxiety. I’ve always been a well-rounded student with a 4.121 weighted and a 3.41 unweighted. I’ve always taken honors classes and took AP Human Geo last year and passed the class with a B and got a 4 on the exam. Now this year I am down to the point where I feel like I am an idiot.
How about if I just take the D for APUSH and work my way up the rest of the year? I feel like I am getting better at retaining the information and my teacher thinks so as well. But I still have that D. My parents are all over me; worried about me and mad at me.
I don’t know what to do.
Correction: How bad will it look if i dropped 2 AP classes my junior year?
Just to add: no, I am not that one student who think he/she is smart but really isn’t. I just overwhelmed myself with all these classes. My life is falling down a merciless pit.
I’m not familiar with Florida universities but there are many schools that will accept you even with a less rigorous schedule. Talk to your teachers again to see if they agree that you really need to drop. Then next fall you can make a balanced list with several safeties and let the chips fall where they may. It’ll work out.
Get a tutor. If you can’t, see if you can stay after school and study with a teacher. Study and bring your grades up, and make sure you pass the AP exams.
@ryanalexander116 So I should just take the D for the quarter? I am positive I’ll be able to improve my performance but of course I’ll remain modest with myself
I work at FIU, and while I am not in admissions, I work with a lot of students. They tend to have been good students in high school, but from what I have seen, most did not take all AP courses. I think some regular or honors classes are not likely to be that detrimental to your chances, especially if your unweighted GPA stays relatively good. My daughter had to drop an AP course last year in 10th grade, and her teacher worked with her - he retroactively changed her first quarter grade to the average of the next 3 quarters she received in honors. I think it’s important to speak to your teachers and administration and see how they may be willing to work with you - it doesn’t do them any good to have you failing their course, or to fail the AP exam. It’s still early in the year - you also still have time to work your grades up if your teachers think you will be able to handle the course load (and by handling it, I mean with sleep and a life and good mental health!)
