How bad is a 4.5 AWA

Hi

I just got my GMAT score, and I have 51 math and 36 verbal (overall 730, 96 percentile)
however my AWA score is lower than what I expected and hoped.

I am international student and I graduated from UPenn engineering with 3.6 gpa.
I am aiming for top schools like harvard, stanford etc.

Do you think low AWA will cause any problems? Or should I just retake the GMAT ( I am not an excellent writer so I suppose I would get a 5 or maximum 5.5 if I can find the time to study. ( I had already taken the GMAT before and had a 5 but had lower overall score)

what are your suggestion.

Thanks a lot..

Congrats on the 730. School will not care about your AWA. Focus on your essays.

I am in the same boat. I got a 4.0 on AWA but a decent 40verbal and total 730. I have been told AWA does not matter, but 4.0 looks really low end. Adcoms tell you the standard answer that they look at the whole package and not just one score but they do not overlook AWA (for whatever that means).

What do you guys think?
