How bad is the situation really?

I currently have to decide between LSU and Clemson for engineering and I am having a tough time deciding. My entire family (mom, dad, sister, cousins, etc) has gone to LSU and it would be about 10-15k cheaper a year for me then Clemson. However, I know about all the budget cuts and all at LSU and I am not sure if it is really worth it to attend. Could anyone give me some more information about how much the engineering department has been cut and how much more will be changing.

Thanks

My daughter is a Senior as well. They have played enough games in the state that she spend the last year finding a way to afford to go out of state. It is sad what they are doing to the kids with the Tops program.

Lsu is a good choice for engineering. If you’re sure engineering is your path, you won’t go wrong. Unless you’ve got a fair amount of expendable income, it’s not worth spending more on an engineering degree from clemson.

Well, normally, I would say LSU for engineering, as the job placement rate is really great for engineering. But Clemson is a fantastic school, very well respected, and if you’re not necessarily looking to work at a chemical plant or somewhere else in Louisiana or Texas, I would recommend Clemson for engineering. My son graduated high school in 2010, went to Bama for engineering, and the only Louisiana school he looked at was LA Tech. (LSU would have been a continuation for high school and he wanted to see new places). Back then, LA Tech really scared us with all the budget cuts. But, had he gone there, he would probably have gotten a job, and probably an internship. He never could find internships at Bama, and still has trouble, even with a master’s, finding an engineering job because of his lack of internship/job experience. LSU has great engineering recruiting for internships, and I don’t know what Clemson has in that regard, but I would look into internship placement, not just job placement, when making your choice.
