I'm a Dornsife student enrolled in the 2-unit Engineering102/Freshman Academy class, planning on transfering into Viterbi next semester. The class is required for every freshman with an engineering major, but those who are transfering in are excempt. My Viterbi counselor told me back in Aug. that I could drop the class, but I kept it out of sheer interest. It's credit/no credit, and to get credit, you basically need good attendance + to attend 2 out of 4 available outside-of-class lectures. I was unable to make the first two, so I was gonna attend 3 & 4. However, I accidentally missed #3, and since there's only one left, I won't be able to meet the requirement. Question: How bad would it look to have the class on my transcript without the credit for it, considering its relative unimportance? I know it won't be a big deal for Viterbi, but I'm worried about how it would look to internship/job interviewers, scholarship committees, etc. Thanks.

Can you talk to the professor or TA? Is it possible to get an Incomplete and make up the missed lecture(s) next semester? Talk to your Viterbi counselor right away and good luck.

That course is not offered in the Spring. My son looked for it on the class registration list since he is a Spring admit. He called USC and they told him Spring admits were exempt. If it is credit/no credit I can’t imagine employers will care. Isn’t this class all about exposing you to the various engineering fields?

Thank you all for the comments. When I posted this, I had assumed that I could do nothing about this…turns out, I’m still able to get credit. Without any contact on my part, one of our coaches sent out an email to those who needed extra lectures, instructing us to write a brief report on any talk we’d attended on campus. Guess that’s a lesson to not make hasty assumptions. :P
