The end of first semester is about to end and I managed to get three B’s in Calc BC, Physics C, and AP Lit. In addition I’m taking chamber and concert choir (2 periods required) and AP Gov.
As a junior I took Precal Honors, AP US, AP Lang, AP Spanish, AP Bio, and Choir and received A’s and also took the Psych and APES AP exams and received 4/5’s in all. At the end of junior year I was rank 8 of 892 and my GPA was 3.97/4.57 (one B in AP Euro sophomore year), however after this semester my GPA is going down to 3.90/4.55. My SAT was 2370 and my letter of recommendations should be strong, but my extracurriculars are fairly average with nothing remarkable. I had my interview recently and I thought it went well, but not amazing. It was about 35 minutes long.
Sorry if this sounds pretentious, but how badly did I mess up my chances?
By getting 3 Bs? Not much. Does your school offer percentages? Because there IS a difference between an 89% and an 80% (or 92% and 86% if your school is like mine).
Academically, you’re all set. You have all the qualities a perfect match would have.
Now, let me address your extracurriculars (“nothing remarkable”)
While you have a good chance to get into Penn, but being “remarkable” is what sets you apart and makes the admissions officer root for your acceptance.
You seem to be committed to Choir, and I hope you made sure to note that.
If your essays were excellent, then you shouldn’t worry, because even if Penn rejects you, you’re pretty much guaranteed to go to a great school.
Good luck, and I hope to see you next year!
