How badly will my GPA affect my acceptances?

I am a current freshmen applying to boarding schools as a repeat 9th grader. I am in the 3 of the 3 honors courses offered to freshmen in my school. I have had most of my interviews which went incredibly well (I bonded with my interviewers and we had great conversations). My SSAT score is an 81% (still waiting on one more to come back) which is quite good in my opinion. I have unique extracurriculars and have great achievements in the them. In addition, I have connections and I am a full pay student. Though I have a slight problem, my current GPA is not the best (3.8 weighted, yikes!) but in the past 2 years my gpa was great (all A’s with an occasional B+). How affected are my chances in getting into: Peddie, Cranbrook, and Lawrenceville.

A 3.8 GPA is still good. Don’t fret much. You have great connections, are full pay, and have great achievements in your unique extracurriculars. Those will help you and might even outweigh the “negatives” of your applications.

Thank you, all I can do is hope you are right!

Anyone else with any insight to my predicament? I just want as many opinions as possible.

SSAT seems a little low for Lawrenceville, but on par with other schools. Connections can mean a lot of different things (friends with security officers vs cousins with head of school), but assuming you have serious connections this helps. Again, a 3.8 weighted GPA means different things based on your school, how many AP classes you took, etc., but in most cases will not take you out of the running.

Thank you! I understand my ssat is a bit low for Lawrenceville, but I am still waiting on my scores for my most recent test. Fingers crossed I get a better score!

I got my score back and I received an 85th percentile (yayay!), am I now in better condition to get into Lawrencevile?

I definitely think so - an 85% is wonderful and definitely nothing to worry about! Besides, don’t stress too much about your scores - Admissions Officers usually care a lot more about your ECs and essays (basically, what you’re like as a person).

Thanks for the feedback! Now all I can do is wait and hope to get in somewhere!
