while i'm good at math, history, and english, science has always been my weak-point. it's as if the entire subject cannot correlate with my study habits, y'know? with the aforementioned subjects, it is so easy/understand to get by with little to no studying—often before tests. yet, in science, i can't use this method, as even if i'm listening in class, it is sometimes harder to grasp the topic. what do typical science inclined students do? do the most brilliant science students dedicate time to the material? right now, i'm a senior interested in pre-med (weird, huh?) and i want to be able to tackle this before i go to college. i've heard from a few people that the only way to conquer the sciences is through memorization? that's fine... but what about when i have to use critical thinking skills? i feel i need to do this as well, and it's frustrating that while i can apply critical thinking skills in a subject like calc or english lit, it becomes hard in science courses.

would it be enough to study ahead of time? i guess this is most PRACTICAL solution, but as i stated before, it's hard to apply this when i'm so used to the norm of not heavily studying.

so, yeah, any help would be appreciated.

do the most brilliant science students dedicate time to the material?

...Lol ^_^;

Science is a combination of memorization and application of knowledge. If you are planning on doing premed, you better get your butt to start flipping through a Biology book and start learning the basic facts. Otherwise, there's no possible way you can critically think without knowing the basic facts, the limitations, and the possibilities.

In my school the highest failing rate for freshmen is biology. They're just not used to having to study and memorize obscure science facts about underwater sponges. My advice is get a whole lot of flashcards or find a teacher like I had.

^ Yeah, I suppose flash cards would do the job adequately. Now, to combat my laziness... :)

I must admit, i totally understand what you are going through. The transition is tough, but if you really want to go into med, then you better just start now and do your studying ahead of time. (it's a given) otherwise, you'll be struggling big time in college.

Yet it surprises me that you didn't have to/barley had to study for your other subjects..I have to study well for ALL of mine in order to do well. Sorry for being blunt, but you better get to the work now, or forget about it.

Make flashards, take class notes, practice the math probs, review your notes the day you get them, ect...there's alot to do! esp is you want to lead in your field. laziness = self-defeat. (the worst type)
