How can I get into Stanford Business School?

Right now I'm currently in the University of Washington (Top 50 overall University, Top 25 Undergrad Business school, and Top 15 in the major I'm doing)

I'm majoring in Finance and Mathematics.

My current GPA is 3.77. (Only 1 quarter though, I completed my 1st 2 years at a Comm. College)

Do I need to step it up? And what else do I need to do besides do well in the GMATs later on in life.

Do I have a shot?

I never understood the rationale of majoring in business when you purpose to attend a top MBA school. Isn't it redundant?

Not really. If you want to futher increase your knowledge on a particular subject. People do it all the time.

Get a job.

The Stanford Business School application (and I suspect other b-school applications, too) requires significant recommendations from people who have known you in a work context, and who can comment on things like your leadership abilities, your ability to function as a member of a team, and your problem-solving. I have done recommendations for people, and it was a lot of work. I think for b-school your academic competence is a given, and .1 plus or minus on your GPA is probably irrelevant. What you need is life experience outside of school, and of a quality that people can attest to how it shows your potential.

You should look at the GSB's website, but to echo above, you should plan on having 4 or more years of substantive work experience.
