How can I get Research Experience? (SOE Student)

Hello,

I am currently a rising sophomore at Rutgers. I want to try and get research for the upcoming fall semester, but I have no idea how to.

Can any upperclassmen, graduates, alumni explain to me how do go about this?

Thank you!

Contact any of your professors from last year and any of those you have scheduled in the fall to see if they have any ongoing research where they may need undergraduate help. Also, contact the department heads of the fields you are interested in and offer your help in any departmental research. My D (not at Rutgers) attended a session regarding how to procure internships/research opportunities at her school. Check to see if something similar exists at Rutgers when you return. She told her professors to keep her in mind also. She is now involved in two projects- she also is a rising sophomore. Good luck!

@Sdgal2‌ Thank you. Rutgers is a pretty big school, and although it is known for its research, it actually has a reciprocal effect - since students are not in a personal classroom environment (class sizes are pretty big), it is sort of difficult to plainly ask a professor for research.

I will definitely contact my current and previous professors though.
