<p>A hook is something that will make you very desirable to colleges. Things that are generally considered hooks include: child of a celebrity, well known politician, or public figure, child of someone extremely wealthy who can donate enough money to name a building, recruited athlete, minority status, especially minorities with high test scores. If you are a legacy (parents or other relatives attended school) that can also be a hook. (cross posted with T2)</p>
