Hi, I'm from the Caribbean and I have never heard of competitions such as Intel and the like down here. Similarly, I have never heard of/seen a high school student doing research with a university professor or anything of the sort. Just recently (probably like <5 years), my country started participating in the Mathematical Olympiad, and only that. There is still no involvement in the Biology, Physics, and Chemistry Olympiads. So I was just wondering, are there any competitions other than the Olympiads that international students can enter, and if not, how can international students show achievements in the sciences and get research opportunities? Thanks for any help.

Wow, that is a tough situation! You could try dropping some professors emails, or looking for summer programs that are recruiting international students.

I heard Clark Scholars @ Texas Tech is one of those that is big on diversity, though it is pretty selective.

Maybe you could have one of your teachers petition the province/whoever organizes international competitions to get it added?

My school doesn’t offer the chemistry olympiad but one of my teachers is trying to get it added.

ISEF is a science fair for internationals, but I think you need to go through a qualifying science fair. There are probably other competitions out there-I know google hosts something too, though it’s not really like ISEF.

Best of luck! I’m sure if you persist, eventually you will come across something.

Well, when my country got involved in the Math Olympiad it was through the efforts of the “flagship” (for lack of a better word) university of the country. So I don’t know who to approach about getting the country involved in the other 3 Olympiads. I would try emailing professors but do you know of any way I can acquire their emails? I don’t think I can just go to a university and say “Can I have the email addresses of all the professors in the XYZ Dept. please?” Thanks for all the help so far though.
