How can my brother be a more competitive applicant for Harvard, UPenn-Wharton, Columbia, UChicago?

Those 4 are probably my brother's top choices as of now.

He's currently a junior has a 2280 SAT (800 M, 730 CR, 750 W) and almost 4.0 GPA with 11 total AP's + 1 community college class by graduating high school. He's gotten an 800 on Math level 2 SAT and 750 in Spanish. He'll take a few more in May/June.

He's captain of varsity cross country and has had some nice regional finishes, a committed clairinet player with some great district and state awards and an accomplished Boy Scout (Eagle Scout with 1 palm, senior patrol leader, many high adventure treks).

He wants to eventually go into trading or hedge fund. What other schools would you recommend that aren't quite as hard to get into?

Well hes already academically qualified for these schools so he just needs to stand out. If hes interested in business id recommend getting an internship or something at a bank or firm to show he is passionate and has experience with the field.

My thread (chance please): <a href=“Chances for Vanderbilt, UNC, NYU, UF, and Duke? - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1610985-chances-for-vanderbilt-unc-nyu-uf-and-duke-p1.html</a></p>

I personally recommend: ut, uc berekely isnt terribly hard, NYU http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-business-schools/mba-rankings</a></p>

He is doing very well and he can just continue his ec’s and he’ll be in good shape. good luck!

I don’t think many banks accept high schoolers as interns, so are you all talking about as a teller or some brainless work like that?

bump bump bump

Does he have a time machine back to 1998?

Seriously, what does he know about the industry, other than it can be lucrative under the right conditions?

@bradybest: Your brother may benefit from using CC’s College Super Match. It’s definitely a useful tool for getting started in the college search process.
(And FYI, bank telling and similar positions are respected jobs for a lot of people. Please refrain from referring to hard working Americans’ jobs as “brainless.”)

@soze: Unless I misread the original post, I don’t think the boy claims to know anything about trading; he simply wants to explore a career in those fields.

shorting, long-position trading, foreign exchange, equities, derivatives, same old stuff

bump anybody else?
