How challenging is it to become a doctor?

I always love to help others, it’s just one of my passions that I have, so therefore I’ve always wanted to have a career in healthcare. At first I wanted to become a pharmacist, but then I didn’t like it as much when I was working as a pharmacy technician. I usually observed my pharmacist in my work, and I would say I would probably not work in pharmacy field for my entire life. So then I thought of becoming a physician because, I would say it’s more interesting, and you’re more interactive with the patients. I would also say my physician and others doctors I’ve met inspired me to become a doctor.

But the question is: how challenging is it to become a doctor?

Very challenging, not only because of the GPA needed for med school (3.7 is the median for accepted students) and the need for MCAT in the top 18% nationally, but also because there is a high level of expected ECs (community service, bench or clinical research, clinical volunteering, physician shadowing, leadership, teaching/tutoring/coaching).

To add to the above comment, it takes a lot of time and money. For a majority a people, the path to becoming a full attending physician is 11-15 years. Four years of undergrad, four years of Med school, and then a three to seven year residency. Also, Med school is very expensive and it is extremely difficult to have a job when in Med school. Also, when in residency you will only be making about 50,000 dollars a year. It won’t be until you are around thirty that you’ll be making a physicians salary.

The hard work really only begins at medical school where long hours and repeated exams are considered normal and where you need your patients more than they need you. There are plenty of things you have to give up along the way, they are as follows:
Your desire to be wealthy,Your desire to change the world,Your desire to please everyone etc.
