thats hilarious but true.

I disagree. I know of several Eagle Scouts my age- I'm at Duke, and the other four are at Yale, Amherst, Williams, and U Penn. None of us were legacies or had any real "hooks," but I think Scouts helped. It's not a major factor, but it is a very good ec. There are also quite a few scholarships available to Eagle Scouts, which is definitely something to consider.

And it's not >1%, it's about 4%.

Er... does being a Life Scout or Star Scout help?

not really cuz it shows that u gave up and u didnt go all the way to eagle (unless ur troop didnt exist one day, or some xtreme situation)

How does it show that you gave up? I am working on my Eagle project right now...

I'm happy that there are scholarships for Eagles...that is good :D

Once again, I disagree, surfed. :) You can do a lot with Scouts regardless of rank- leadership positions are important, as are awards and service activities. Scouts is a strong ec even if you're not an Eagle. It may not help as much, but it does help. :)

well u didnt say that in ur post. i thought u meant that u became life then quit boy scouts. on the app. u should write "working on eagle project" or email them once u make eagle scout.

warblers: "Scouts is a strong ec even if you're not an Eagle"

i actually am eagle.

I wasn't referring to you, lol. I was generalizing. :)

We should have an Eagles thread.

Colleges are aware of the potential for some troops to be Eagle factories, so you need to help them appreciate that yours was not and that your commitment to scouting was real. You should definitely write about something specific about your road to Eagle in one of your essays or as additional information. This is how you distinguish yourself from the "Eagle factory" Eagles. It should not be a laundry list of what you had to do to achieve the rank, as most people are aware of the general process and requirements. It should be something specific, something from the heart, something that helps the adcoms get to know the "Eagle Scout" in you. Congrats on achieving the rank. And you are supposed to include all the planning and preparation of your Eagle project in your total hours. The BSA considers the planning, prep, and leadership the most important aspects of the project.

1Down2togo:

Thanks. Because I'm applying mainly UC, I plan on using 600 words to answer #2 using my Eagle as the subject.

um actually it is less than 1%. i kinda was told that at my eagle ceremony. so yeah.

Not that it really matters, but...

Not every boy who joins a Boy Scout troop earns the Eagle Scout rank; only about 4 percent of all Boy Scouts do so. This represents more than 1 million Boy Scouts who have earned the rank since 1911. Nevertheless, the goals of Scoutingcitizenship training, character development, and personal fitnessremain important for all Scouts, whether or not they attain the Eagle Scout rank.

So there! Either way, it's a small number. :)

i stand corrected, although it also depends on your region, too. and if it didn't matter, you wouldn't have made the entire 3% clarification. :-)

so gr8 thread guyss..tell me how do comment on International students..like ones who have had scouts........

their ranks are not names eagle..and also not done likewise ...also essay may be already there on something else...

so how do intel students highlight scouting experiance ..even if they didnt reach the higest level
