I don’t know if “competitive” is the right term but I did not really know what else to call it. I am in my 2nd semester of my junior year and was wondering if I am a competitive student for colleges. I have a 4.2 weighted GPA and around a 3.66 unweighted. I have taken 5 non honors classes, 11 honors (2 do not count towards my GPA), and 10 college (3 do not count towards my GPA and do not give me high school credit.) My school does not offer AP classes, and this does not take into account my current semester. I am predicted to make a 25 on my ACT. I will also be graduating with an associates degree. I am only really concerned with public universities because I do not think I will do that well, or am qualified, for private universities.
What state? Are there public universities in your state where students from your high school have attended?
North Carolina. Yes there are multiple universities that have had people attend from my school.
Many North Carolina public universities will admit a student with a GPA around 3.66. (You may want to check how they handle the mix of high school and college courses.)
Perhaps more important in determining what colleges would be suitable for you would be:
- What cost constraints do you have?
- What are your academic interests (e.g. possible majors)?
Also, what county are you from? That makes a difference with some NC public schools.
I would say UNC-CH is a reach and NCSU is a little bit lower of a reach, based more on the ACT than the GPA (depends on your major though). All the other NC public universities should be within your grasp as matches or safeties. Let me know if you have questions about them, because I’m pretty familiar with the UNC system.
Hey I know this was nearly two month ago but if you were still willing to help that would be great. I made a “part 2” of this post on my page but I’ll just sum it up here for you. I made a 28 on my act not 25. I will apply with a 3.7 unweighted and a 4.3 weighted. I have now taken 6 non honors, 12 honors, and 13 college. I will graduate with 1 more non honors and honors and then 9 more colleges. I have 40 plus volunteer hours. I am in prom and beta club. I also used to be in a publication clubs but the teacher disbanded. During that time I designed my schools new logo. The uni’s I am most interested in are Appalachian and UNC Charlotte. Once again I am sorry for responding so late I just forgot this even existed.
Forgot to mention I am in Gaston county and I am graduating early. My high school is usually 5 years I am doing it in 4
