<p>I know its in CIT, which is the second most competitive college to get into, but I realized that I really would like to do Materials science and engineering which isn't all too popular. How difficult would it be to get in?</p>
<p>MSE at CMU has gotten really popular the last 5-10 years. A lot of it is due to the increased interest by students in things such as solar energy, fuel cells, nano materials, etc etc. I know at one point there were discussions within the department about making an A in the intro class a requirement for admission to the department. This was because the major traditionally had fewer than 10 students a year, but suddenly it increased to well over 30.</p>
