I think Vassar also has the best virtual tours. I have watched them so many times, and the music is great on the slide show.

I am glad they got rid of the picture at an angle and two screen picture they had at the beginning of the new website. I like the symmetry of the website now.

Williams also had a cute Halloween picture, but not as cute as Vassar's.

We got our two best college mailings from Vassar and Smith.

Vassar: 1969: Woodstock, Man walks on the Moon, first Gap store opens, Vassar goes coed! (This was probably more for parents.)

Smith: Picture of Barbara Bush (the former first lady.) Back of postcard: We think there are better ways for Smithies to get to the White House! Snap!

I also really like Vassar's typeface.

Vassar was DS's first choice until of junior year. It was hard to say goodbye. Still get twinges.

Oh, but Vassar does not have the beautiful mountains of Williams! And personally, I loved Oberlin's socially conscious mailings.

On 1969: Let's not forget that the Mets won the World Series and the Jets won the Super Bowl! (That's for the New Yorkers out there.) Also, Golda Meir became the first female prime minister of Israel. John and Yoko got married and later had their bed-in. (I know you remember that, Mythmom.) The Beatles released Abbey Road. Sesame Street premiered.

It was a monumental year, and Vassar was indeed right in there with its progressive move to allow men in. (Vassar was invited to join Yale but politely declined.)

Unfortunately, there were events on the other side too. Judy Garland died. William Calley was charged for the My Lai Massacre.

And my Vassar student probably knows nothing about any of those things!

Yeah, that's why I thought the mailing was for the parents. The card might have mentioned the Amazings now that you mention it, but not the Jets. Sesame Street, too, maybe.

twinmom: My kids do follow most of these things. This will make you laugh. D used "bagism" as the theme of her bedroom. She hung fancy bags from all the cool stores she's ever been too all round her room. Sometimes we even asked for bags when we didn't buy anything. Some of the bag art is so beautiful. Then she put BAGISM on her door with their slogan "All we are saying is give peace a chance." Not to be outdone, S put up the John and Yoko Apple Think Different poster in his dorm room this year.

I have to admit it. Abbey Road is my favorite album of all time. I got mildly electrocuted the first time I heard it mopping the floor in bare feet on the student house with sloping floors.

I attended Woodstock. I like the movie A WALK ON THE MOON that details these events in a very human way.

twinmom and mythmom-
Fun to watch you wax nostalgic, especially about Vassar. I was there shortly after it went coed, during those transition years. Interesting times....

Addendum-
I suspect I am the only one who cares about this... but I was trying to figure out the exact timing of when Vassar went coed. Publications said 1969, but I am sure that the first class that graduated with males that spent all 4 years at Vassar was the class of 1974, meaning they entered in fall of 1970. I did a little research and found that the first males that came as matriculated students (not just part of the 12 college exchange) were second semester transfer students for the spring semester of 1969 Coeducation At Vassar - Vassar College Encyclopedia . I have several guy friends from the classes of '73 and '74. I also remember a few male VC transfer students that made a quick transfer to Vassar from U Wisconsin-Madison after the "escapades" (war protests) there. Enough said. Dont want to get anyone in trouble.....That was a long time ago.
