I’ve heard rumors (often when people are comparing Smith and Wellesley, but still) that there’s a lot of fierce academic competition among Wellesley students (because of the grade deflation, possibly?) and that there’s a lack of community/friendliness among the students. Could any current/former students debunk or confirm this? Thank you!
My daughter just completed her first year - she didn’t have any cut throat experiences, BUT you have to remember that you will be on campus with 2500 very driven young women. A lot of them are no b.s. kind of girls!
I’d say it depends on what you mean by “cutthroat”. Wellesley students tend to be highly motivated and no-nonsense when it comes to academics. However, I never experienced anyone sabotaging someone else or trying to undermine another student. People just worked really hard. It also varies from student to student, of course.
