How did you prep for college interviews?

I'm a junior and I'm really bad at expressing myself. I have around a year to prepare for interviews.

Does anyone have tips to practise for a successful interview?

Whoa whoa, you’re a junior. You shouldn’t be worrying about interviews yet. Just know why you want to go to the school you’re interviewing for and have lots of questions.

I was pretty nervous about my college interviews too. However, there was no point to be.

The alumni interviews are mainly geared towards increasing the applicant’s interest in the university. Most of the interview will be the interviewer talking about the college (prompted by your questions).

The only questions about me that they asked were “Tell me about yourself,” “Why X College,” “Why did you pick this major”. The interviewer, of course, asked me more in-depth questions following up my answers. It’s supposed to be a conversation, and thus friendly and informal.

The problem is I tend to talk incoherently when I get nervous, and I get a feeling that people don’t understand what I’m saying or what point I’m trying to get across. I guess my question is: how do I improve my speaking skills?

Get some family friends to do practice interviews with you and give you feedback on how you can improve.

These interviews are rarely ‘make or break.’ Even those that count, don’t count heavily. The only way to have a ‘bad’ interview is if you are rude, arrogent, or indicate directly or indirectly that you have no interest in the school. Practice won’t help with that - but I doubt that’s your problem if you are worried about how you come across.
