Hello all!
As a premed, I wanted to major in something I was interested in but could also lead to a career in case med school doesn’t work out. My uni has a pretty stable biomedical science program. However, Ive never been very good at math or physics, as biological sciences are my forte. The program has a University Calc 1 course and also mechanics among other courses.
How much math/physics are involved in this major and how difficult is it?
Also, how difficult is it general as a major? Is it a killer of premed GPAs?
Thanks!
I have heard of biomedical engineering…but what is biomedical sciences? What courses are there? Search on the college website and look for 'biomedical science curriculum"
Well, biomedical sciences is just a different name for biomedical engineering. There’s a mechanics, calc, bio, and a couple other courses.
Well, you need to be pretty good at physics and math to do well at engineering, generally speaking. At my undergrad at least, biomedical engineering was known to be one of the most difficult engineering majors.
Engineering majors tend to be difficult for maintaining high GPAs due to course difficulty and load, especially if you’re interested in going down the premed path. I have seen a lot of engineering majors struggle with their GPAs, but I have also met engineering majors accepted to top med schools whom I would presume had high GPAs. This is your judgement call—do you have any way to contact advisors maybe?
