My D and I recently paid a visit to Viterbo U’s campus and just fell in love with everything about it. She has very little dance training, but is extremely strong in vocal and activing. Anyone who has auditioned for Viterbo’s MT program have any insight on the difficulty of the dance portion of the audition. Thanks!!!
My daughter auditioned for and was accepted into Viterbo’s BFA Musical Theatre program last year. She absolutely loved the people and program and I have no doubt she would have been very happy there. When she made her final choice there was only one other program to which she was accepted that just was an even better fit, but she was sincerely sad when she has to decline Viterbo. It is a real gem.
In terms of the dance audition I remember well that it was one of her favorites from Chicago Unifieds. She really enjoyed the choreographer and found it challenging, but fun. Last year they were taught a section of the actual choreography from A Chorus Line which is difficult, especially when being learned in an hour. She picks up choreography pretty quickly, but it was definitely advanced. However, she said he made it fun and reassured them they were looking for their dance potential not expecting them to master a seriously hard piece of choreography that even takes pros longer than an hour to learn. She’s a pretty good dancer and did well but was by no means perfect, but she felt confident that she had shown her skill and ability to grow. She felt they made it feel very welcoming, fun and non-threatening.
I would encourage you to have your daughter work on her dance skills before auditions, not just for Viterbo, but for all auditions with dance. While she may not be a dancer, if she gets some coaching or training in the next few months on picking up choreography and learning combinations quickly it might be a great help. And then she just needs to get out there and do her best and show she has potential to grow with training. Best of luck!!
Hi my daughter is starting at Viterbo next week! She is a theater design/tech major with an emphasis in costume design. I can’t help with MT information, but I can tell you that so far all of our interactions with the school have been amazing. She has gotten so much personal attention. She moves in next week, so during the next year if you get more serious about attending you can always PM me and I will be happy to help you out. She is so excited to be a V-Hawk!
Thank you for the info. We just loved this school! Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. We’ve visited a few schools so far and this one is our favorite to date. I will definitely message you in the future if we have any further questions.
