How do colleges compare students in the district?

Hi everyone,

I go to a district that has 5 high schools and 4 out of the 5 are nationally ranked in the top schools in the nation. I was wondering if I will be compared to students in the other high schools in the district or just my school.

The school I go to isn’t bad but it’s the lowest ranked in the district. In terms of grading and activities, there isn’t much of a difference in the schools. Will colleges prefer to take students from the other schools over students from my school? I really want to go to Stanford but not many students from my school have gone there compared to other schools in the district.

Each college handles admissions differently. At the end of the day, you’re up against all unhooked applicants (unless of course, you have a hook). Some colleges have admissions officers in charge of that region do the first reading, others read in pairs to assure that two people review each applicant, and those are just a couple of possible examples.

It almost doesn’t matter…be the best version of yourself you can be…take challenging courses and do well, do ECs that interest you, and apply to Reach, Match and Safety schools
