How do colleges know your school's AP situation?

If they are that poor, they should qualify for fee reductions/waivers given by either the state or the school.

As for the importance of AP exam scores on a college application, I’m sure the colleges use the AP exam as a standard to judge the true meaning of the “A” or “B” or “C” (etc.) grade received in the class. While every AP class is different (teaching style, grading style, etc.), the AP exam is something that is the same for every AP student that takes the test in any given year (and close enough to any other AP test in the same subject–that’s why they’re standardized). I think colleges would indeed be suspicious/wary of a student with an AP class on the transcript but without an AP test grade–especially if the class grade is an “A.” As far as I know, college admission officers would discount the validity (if you will) of the “A,” thinking that the student probably took the class just for the extra grade point, or maybe that the class is not up to AP standard (and so the student chooses not to take the AP exam).

I didn’t mean the fact that admission officers would be suspicious was a misconception. I meant the admission officers hold a misconception that no/low AP grades is an indicator of a lacking student.

However, I believe I will ask my counselor to explain the context of my AP scores. Wouldn’t she have some facts or figures as to % passing/taking tests? This seems like a good idea. Is it?
