how do colleges look at c's in an ap class?

Yes, I know a lot of people do frown on help or brush it off as typical teenage drama until it is too late. I wish there was some way to make them understand before it is too late. Maybe his report card with the Cs will be a wake up call for them that all is not well. Could be a blessing in disguise.

@PhxRising @gettingschooled how do we tell our parents that it is serious?

I don’t know because I don’t know why they are not taking him seriously. Look at how many of these signs he is exhibiting:

Maybe they don’t like psychology? Would they prefer a minister, priest, etc.? You have to try to get their attention one way or another and if they will not help you have to try to get your brother to get help on his own. In the end, you are a teenager yourself and you can only do so much. You have to try but your parents and brother have to do their part too.

@gettingschooled i have a question about him and his depression

Feel free to pm me @solveforx

Were those C’s on tests or final semester/year grades?
(Regardless, no, it won’t hurt if he wants to attend Rutgers. What state do you live in?)
If your parents frown on psychologists or therapy, what about counseling in school if your school has that, or perhaps talking in confidence to a priest (even if you’re not Catholic, they’re bound to never reveal anything that was told to them, and there has to be a Catholic church your brother can walk to discretely) or a trusted religious leader.
Deal with helping your brother first, and secon “how to tell our parents”.

@MYOS1634 final grade. We live in nj. But Rutgers SOE is hard to get into. My cousin goes to gatech and we met him this weekend so my parents are pressuring him for gatech. Yeah its a good school but he’s not sure if he wants to go there.

I agree, GTech is a pressure cooker, not the right environment for your brother. What does he think?
In any case I’d focus on finding him help right now. Your parents will talk about colleges and it may add to his stress. Is he the oldest son in a family where that “means” added responsibility?
In addition, is 50k/year truly affordable off income/savings without debt, for your parents?
Look into Olin, VTech, even Penn State College of engineering, not to mention UAlabama’s college of engineering etc(look for mom2collegekids whose sons attended the honors college and did engineering as well)

Olin’s admit rate for males is in the single digit. I think those Cs will make him uncompetitive.

Darn it, you’re right.

op, what’s your parents’ budget?
What State do you live in?

Have you been able to see the GC or book an appt with one and/or find a trusted clergy member or priest you can refer your brother to?

@MYOS1634 no he is the youngest. he is thinking to transfer to gatech tho. budget is from 0k-mid 30k. and nope. gc is never their. we dont have clergy members in our religion.

Anyone can meet with a priest and they cannot ever tell what they were told. So your brother would be safe talking to a prest, and there has to be a church nearby.
Is your brother already in college? Why is he thinking of transferring- I thought he was in hs.
Do you live on GA? Otherwise gtech will not be within budget.

@MYOS1634 no he is a junior. my parents really want him to go because my cousins go there. he knows he won’t get in as a freshman so he might transfer after his first year of college depending where he gets in. no we live in nj

it won’t work - it’ll be too expensive as an OOS student. Georgia Tech doesn’t have financial aid for residents from other states and it is way out of your budget (almost 50k per year).
Look into Rowan Engineering.

@MYOS1634 what about aerospace engineering schools? which ones would you recommend for him?

UAlabama Hunstville is an easy one - good scholarships, not to hard to get with the proper scores.
In Florida, they have various merit scholarship programs you should investigate.

@MYOS1634 my parents prefer not to send him to school in south due to racism and being far away.

Racism is not a problem in the south any more than it is anywhere in the US.

@NoVaDad99 despite, my parents don’t want to send him in the deep south. virginia tech or gatech is fine. tamu maybe but others are a no

Why tamu - one of the most conservative schools in the nation and Texas is definitely the south- but not UAlabama Huntsville which is near an aerospace research park???
Anyway public universities to n Texas are exceedingly hard to get into from out of state. Your brother mat have a shot at utdallas if he tries for honors.
Are you Hispanic or African American? I’m not saying we’re past racism or that there are no problems, just that college towns are the least likely to be a problem. I would worry more about Virginia(weird cowboy alchol enforcement) and Florida (stand your ground) than about college campuses everywhere. Ferguson and Baltimore weren’t in the south.
