how do common app essays work?

the common app essays ask you to
1) elaborate on an extracurricular activity
and
2) articulate your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve

the first one can be used for all schools but is the second one mean to be individualized for each school?

i know some schools ask "why do you want to transfer to our school" (yale does)

what's the difference between the second common app essay question and "why do you want to transfer to our school"

i drafted a general essay about why i'm transferring so i'm assuming when yale asks "why do you wish to transfer to yale?" i should talk about yale, not why i'm transferring...

can someone clarify this for me?

this is a good question and i would also be interested in some clarification.

who here has already worked through these applications and successfully transferred?

duh..I have the same question on mind lately..

My opinion: I think question 2 is ideally individually tailored to each school. I believe your essay will be stronger if it addresses not just why you want to transfer, but also why you want to transfer to this particular school.

This means that your essay can be partially "recycled" for several schools, but partially would have to be customized for each school where you apply.

so, once you've applied to a college, can you change the #2 essay then apply to another college?
