I’m a student at a Florida state college hoping to transfer to either an English major or Education major, with a minor in philosophy or linguistics. My goal is to become certified to teach English at the secondary level with ESOL endorsement. Does it matter whether I take Math for Liberal Arts or College Algebra as a prospective transfer to this major? FSU’s School of Education “strongly suggests” College Algebra, whereas UF’s website doesn’t express this preference. Is there any way to know for sure that the math pathway my college advises meets UF’s standards? Thanks.
Talk with someone in admissions to get the definitive answer…however…
I think English and Education majors are all (only) required to take the state core general education math courses (State requires 3 credits, and UF requires another 3 for a total of 6 credits). Below is a list of UF offered courses that met the requirement. If you’ve taken the CC version (list codes match), you should be fine. College Algebra and Math for LA majors are both on the list.
