How do I decide which Ivy Leagues to apply to?

@ClarinetDad16 Of course not but part of me doesn’t really want to aim for the one that is strongest in my major because that just means it’ll be even harder to get in :stuck_out_tongue:

I just kinda want to apply everywhere and then look at my options then once I see which ones I got into. I’m not only aiming for ivies cause I know it’s a slim chance to get in.

So what exactly is your question? It sounds like you have your plan

@WasatchWriter
I just wanted to know if it was a good idea to just apply to all the ivies.

It’s not “a good idea,” but plenty of people do it and it’s not verboten in any way.

You’re applying to just the Ivies or you’re not? It’s difficult to tell from your posts.

I think any family who has the money should let their kid apply to all the Ivies if they want as long as they have a realistic idea of their chances AND have a couple of safeties and a few matches on their list as well. But most students should not have a list that consists of just Ivy League schools.

There’s your reason to not apply to all 8 besides the application fee.

I would argue that most people would not be most satisfied at the 8 ivy league schools compared with some other 8 school list of a handful of ivies + similarly characterized top 20 non ivy Us + top 5 or 10 LACs (because if Dartmouth is your favorite ivy, I definitely think several of the top LACs would be better fits than many of the top universities).

Between curriculum, location, size, predominant ethos, and strongest departments, it would be difficult to come up with a criteria list where the 8 ivies are actually the 8 best schools reach/match schools unless prestige is a category trumping the others, even going out to say 10 or 15 reach/match schools (why???) maybe, maybe you get all 8 ivies but you’re also running out of top 25 institutions at that point too.

With regard to the OP specifically though: “I really don’t have time to research each an every college right now” This is not only generally a bad attitude to have towards picking where you’re going to live, learn, and grow for the next 4 years, but is also an attitude that gets kids rejected from these schools on a regular basis.

I doubt you will get into any of them with your profile. Pretty sure you aren’t getting into Mudd, either. You need to slow down and build a list where you have more schools aligned with your stats. Frantically generating applications doesn’t do any good if they are all to schools out of your league. And it just reduces the quality of your apps, further reducing your chances of admission.
