There is this medical internship type thing i wanna apply for and it's free and a bit lengthy. The only hitch is that they don't provide housing so they told me I'd have to find somewhere to stay myself around the NYC area... How would I go about doing that? Has anyone done this??

thanks

NYU sometimes has space from cancellations. Facebook has "groups" - type in "summer in NYC" and some of the groups have links or contacts to housing

Keep in mind that housing is VERY difficult to obtain in NYC. For example, my parents just rented a 900-square foot apartment (aka: very, VERY small by any other city's standards) and the rent is 6k a month. That's cheap for NYC.

I'd say go for craigslist, but bring mace when you go to check out the places. >_>;; You never know what kind of creep has put up a message.

My mother did business with this organization: http://www.studenthousing.org/

I know they provide housing for college students. Check it out.

you can dorm at most colleges during the summer if you're over 18 and have a valid reason

Ummm if they are soliciting and taking your application seriously this means they often take non-local interns. If I were you I would talk to the program. They might not provide housing but they will know better then any one on here when it comes to the best and most affordable housing for their program.

Good Luck!

Actually looking at the studenthousing.org website. They are really cheap (for NYC) I thought their rates were monthly, but you can get something for 3000$ for the entire summer. This might seem expensive but the internship is free and it is NYC your parents should be expecting to pay that at the least

I'm not sure how feasible this would be but what about New Jersey? I know a lot of seniors who take a train/bus to NYC for internships/etc.

what aboot housing in dc?
i might just end up renting from craigslist...

gtown, au, and gw all require dormers to be 18 :(
