I really think it depends on the teacher, how much work they choose to give out, and how they decide to teach. The less work you have, the more you can take on.
Let me divide the reasons into categories of people:
- The College Credit Kid: This kid takes many APs to receive college credit and reduce the amount of introductory college courses taken, thus overall saving money
-The Risk-taker: This kid takes many APs to not only show the rigor of their course-load, but to make a lasting and impressive impression on college admissions papers
- Everyone Else Is Why Not Me- The kid who just takes APs because everyone else is and they don't want to be left to or seem misplaced or not be with friends, plus the school may extremely push AP curriculum
- The Overachiever Kid- The kid who likes to challenge themselves and push them themselves by taking all the APs available
-The My Parents Made Kid- The kids whose parents force the to take APs against their will lol
-The Intimidater - The kid who takes many APs to intimidate others
Honestly, the list can go on and on, not saying everyone is like this, but these are the major reason in my opinion why kids take so many APs. APs can be very beneficial, but how many APs you take doesn’t define your intelligence. Some schools offer more APs than others. I know my school offers a good amount of APs, but we are an IB World School so most kids go through with IB. At my school the AP course is a required prerequisite for admittance into the IB/DP form of the course and we tend to take most of our APs junior year. The number of APs you take to determine whether you get into a good school or not, what matter is if you take the most rigorous course-load that your school offers that you feel you can take on while still staying sane and maintain good grade. If you can do that you are golden
@IvyCupcake78 You forgot the person who does it just for class rank and GPA!!!
