I know they ask for a copy of the fed tax returns, but in terms of savings in the bank and such - How do they verify those?

I’d like to know as well…

The school simply asks you for documentation of the figures you entered. You got the numbers from somewhere, right? You have to show it when asked.

One of the things on your tax return is interest/dividend income. The amount you earn in that is an indicator of the amount of money you had in the bank during the 2008 tax year. ALSO…we had schools request our bank statements and 1098 I (interest statements from the banks).

Just report the figures accurately & you will easily be able to provide whatever documentation is requested. Please do not try to hide assets.

My Dad got his savings/investment info from his online account of Wells Fargo… so how am I supposed to provide proof of the figures…and they are subject to change, aren’t they…??

ergh

Did your dad print off the info when he looked at it? That would be the easiest way to provide proof if asked. If not & you are asked, your dad should be able to get the info. Don’t sweat it. He got the info - he’ll be able to get it again for that date, if need be.

I always print the screen with the account balances on the day I’m filling out the FAFSA. The page has the date on it as well. We have never been asked for verification (yet); but I also do it to have a record in subsequent years of how our financial aid picture changes and to remind myself of the documentation I need each year to complete the forms.

oh okay I just printed it out

thanks

haha :p
