My child took the ACT and the SAT, but not the SSAT. I'm just wondering how the scores might compare.

thanks!

When you receive your ssat scores, the report also includes a projected estimate score for the SATs and also for public school state tests. My daughter has taken the ssats, but not the SATs as she is only in 8th grade. I'll let you know in 3 years how accurate the projections were.

Thanks for your post, zp. My son is technically a 7th grader, but he has taken the upper level tests through talent search. It's not that unusual for a middle schooler to take them, so I was hoping someone would know of a comparison chart or have BTDT experience with their DC taking both tests at the grade 6-8 age range. Sorry for not being more clear in my OP.

BTW, are you named after the band, or the scene in IAWL that the band took it's name from?

I don't think you will find a direct answer to this question. We looked when our child took the SSAT, and other than what SSAT provided in terms of projected SAT, we found nothing. I think it would be interesting if private schools using SSAT did comparisons of SSAT to SAT or ACT for students as a group. One thing we noticed last year was just in relation to one school, although Andover listed a 93% SSAT as its admitted student average, the SAT average at Andover was not 93% for those students taking it (it was lower).

Why would the SAT be lower than SSAT? I have some speculation, but not any facts.

Because it's a totally different test. SSAT and SAT have no relation.

Secondary School Admission Test and Scholastic Aptitude Test (thought I would spell it out to show that they are different)

Also, SAT is a national test given to everyone, ssat is only for ppl wanting to go to secondary schools. So, the ssat has a more competitive group. This is why percentiles will differ most of the time.

... my sister got an 88% on her SSAT and a 2050 on her SAT (first time without studying)

she will likely score between a 2100 and a 2150 after she takes it a couple more times

I really appreciate people taking the time to post here. I do realize that the tests are different, and have distinct purposes. That's why I figured it was better to ask how they compare than to assume that if one does well on test X or Y, then they will do well on test Z.

best wishes-

I didn't study for either.

PM me if you want to know my scores. I took the SSAT and SAT within 10 days of each other. I feel I did equally well on each, and that my results are pretty comparable.

I'm a sophomore, and like it is stated above... HUGE difference in some aspects of the tests.

I wrote my ssats in gr 10 and got 70%tile. Im in gr 12 now and scored 29 math, 29 reading, 25, and 25 science on my act.
