How do they look at ACT scores?

I am submitted three of my ACT scores. Each one has a different writing score.Does UNC look at the highest composite score only? Or do they look at both the highest composite score AND writing score?

Thanks

They superscore your tests. They take the best subsection score for each testing and combine it to form your final score.

Thanks for the reply, but I do not think that UNC superscores the ACT. I remember reading from their website that they take the highest composite. I am questioning if they will take the highest writing as well since that does not affect the composite score.

The woman named Julie in charge of the blogs for UNC’s website replied to someone’s post stating:

Hi Gracie,
Thanks for the question. UNC-CH does not superscore the ACT, though we do for the SAT. Because of the way the ACT composite score is calculated, it makes it trickier to superscore. (For those of you who don’t know what “superscoring” is, it’s when a college takes the highest score for each section of the test from multiple test dates and puts them together.) We want to be sure we use the test scores that are most beneficial to the student. Thanks!”

^^^^That information is incorrect and is an old blog post. UNC Chapel Hill definitely DOES Superscore the ACT now.

From their website:

Actually, this year we WILL be superscoring the ACT so we’ll take the best of each of the subscores. The easiest thing for students to do is just send us all scores. We’ll then select the best ones and use those during our review of the application.

Thanks for the question!
