How do you choose between radically different internship opportunities?

Here are the two categories:

1) Something related to the environmental policy, which I'm quite passionate about. I have considerable experience with environment-related work, but not environmental policy- which is something I've been considering going into as a career. This is national-level policy.

2) An interesting-looking opportunity for doing social research and designing marketing campaigns for a web start-up (deals with poll widgets -like an embedded application for other sites, has strong leadership). The organization seems interesting, though really, I'm interested in the psychological aspects of branding and marketing. I normally approach marketing with a suspicious eye, but it would be really interesting to be on the other side of it, as well as be able to work on my creative ability. I am planning on majoring in psychology and possibly doing academic research somewhere down the line.

Both seem really worthwhile, but perhaps 1 seems more practical. I would be taking a risk with 2, not knowing how much I'll actually learn that I could apply to whatever comes next of my academic and non-academic career in psych. Any thoughts?

Apply to both. Unless you have already been accepted to both opportunities, you don’t know if you will be accepted to both, and it always helps to have more opportunities open.
