How do you choose your safety schools?

Are they colleges that you almost know for sure that you'll get accepted? Do you have to be very willing to go to that school? I'm not really sure how to decide. Do you use a certain criteria? Any input would be appreciated.

financial aid and scholarships probably to decide between safety schools. choose public schools strong in your program, and as long as you may have to go there, pick one with a great sports team in your chosen sport to watch, like OSU for football or Tennesse for women's basketball or north dakota for hockey

Kate- it is really important to "Love Your Safety". This one rule can make your entire college admissions process much less stressful and difficult.
It might be a big state university. My son's safeties were Indiana and Georgia, and our whole family was excited about both of them.
If a student is really not interested in a big school, there are many LACs below the very top tier that are excellent schools. Many of these offer good merit money. You should pick safeties where you are above the 75%tile in grades/scores.
This forum is a great source of information.

Aren't you in 8th grade? Wait for a couple more years. Just have fun!

This is how you consider a safety

-either 75th percentile with a 50% or higher accept rate.
-or your guarenteed admissions (top 10% rule in texas).

Get 1 safety you like and apply to whatever other schools you like.

I will only apply to 4 match schools (UW, UIUC, UMD, and PSU) from OOS with no reaches/safeties. Is this safe?
